Today is Earth day! 🌍 Earth Day founder, Gaylord Nelson, came up with the idea for a national day to focus on the environment after he witnessed the ravages of a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, CA, in 1969. Now it is celebrated nationwide on April 22 every year. The purpose of Earth Day is to raise awareness on the negative impacts our actions as mankind have on the environment and the earth as a whole. The goal of this national holiday is to demonstrate and receive support for environmental protection. Simple things such as turning off the lights to conserve energy, not leaving the water on while you brush your teeth, etc., are all ways to help protect the Earth.
