As many of you know, DISD has built an incredible new football stadium, which proudly carries the name of a beloved coach who dedicated many years to Dawson—Coach Ed Mitchell.
Coach Mitchell means so many different things to so many people. His influence runs deep because of the countless lives he touched over the years. While he loved sports, what set him apart was the genuine care he showed for everyone he met. People may not always talk about his winning record, but they do talk about how special he made them feel. Knowing he cared inspired others to give their very best—on the field and at home.
To honor his lasting impact, members of the community are working to place a statue of Coach Mitchell at the new stadium. The vision is similar to the statues in downtown Corsicana that celebrate influential residents. A statue of this kind costs around $40,000, and we are hoping to raise this amount through donations. If we fall short, our goal is still to honor him with a monument featuring his picture.
